Introduction to Dyslexia.

When most people talk about Dyslexia, they think people with Dyslexia

cannot read and write, that is not the case.

We just have difficulties along the way, which may be for letters the

wrong way round for e.g.; bad, dad, same with say numbers 23, 32.

Some may get left and right mixed up.

Get confused with bs and ds for example; even psychologists and qs.

Miss words out of sentences, missing information etc.

Struggle to understand what they have read.

When they read small print may feel to them as

if words are jumping off the page screen etc.

They may not remember what they read or and they may have only

remembered some of what they have read, not all, the same with listening too.

 These days with so much IT most people watch a lot of videos etc.;

wouldn’t it be interesting to know how much one can take from

watching a video or tv compared to listening to someone

directly talking to you face to face?

How much can you pick up?

Some people’s” concentration gets affected easily, like mine,

such noises from IT devices, door knocks, a lot

of people talking etc., not that I am complaining as

these things must happen at times but this how

certain learning difficulties etc. affect people.

For most people it can be a struggle for them to

read a whole book and that is one of my problems too.

Although I read just a few whole books I forgotten

which ones I read and what they were about.

Sometimes I tend to review books written when

I am reading and researching. Even those

who can’t read and write have knowledge,

tell stories etc.  Never judge a book by its cover.

Like Dyspraxia, Dyslexia has positives such as being creative

and talented in different ways, maybe in other areas too.

What is Dyslexia? Dyslexia can slow people’s ability down to learn

and work but it does not prevent them from achieving most of them

just may take that bit longer to achieve. Different people with dyslexia faces

different problems so different dyslexia people need different kinds of support.

Here is a website that shows the contacts to support Dyslexic people WWW.niace.org.uk .

There are a lot of creative people who are dyslexic, so dyslexic is not all a negative learning disability.

Most Dyslexic are creative are famous; such as Harry Anderson, Orlando Bloom, Harry Belafonte,

Charley Boor man, Jim Carrey, Danny Glover, Whoop Goldberg, Susan Hampshire, Jay Leno,

Christopher Lowell and many more

Although I am Dyslexic myself I am not famous, but I do have my poems on my website sararevealed.blogspot.com/

and I’m quite good at art too.

Dyslexia does not mean you cannot read and write but you may have difficulties along the way like seeing written

words, letters, sentences and numbers the wrong way round meaning reverse.

When writing and reading you may miss things out,

which causes concern for those who teach you, your exams and more but there is help there.

It does not make me a bright person, it does not make a person think etc.

In fact, people with Dyslexia and other problems have strengths and talents too.

You are not alone; many other people face if not the same but similar problems.

It does not make me better than anyone, but I was born in a time there was very little help about,

but I was not alone. I thought I was, and I was wrong. I do not want

the same for you. Despite that in childhood, I achieved very little

if not at all but when I left school and went to college caught up

with most of what could not cope with as a school child.

People with Dyslexia may have difficulty with decoding, maybe problems creating a password, phonics, sounding words and more.

We may get confused with words that sound the same, similar, spelled differently to one another.

We may have difficulty in comprehension, taking in information, remembering instructions, directions and more.

We need one to one support in studying and extra time in exams.

The affects of Dyslexia. Too much to think about at once can cause things to be

missed or too much done and said to what there should be. A lot to do in such little time can

be too much for most Dyslexia people, which for most can link into Anxiety. Dyslexic really is more of an

education problem more than a health problem but everyone likes to get into life as far as a career is curtained.

People with dyslexic tend to need one to one support during studying for exams and that. As the levels get

higher in qualifications, people with Dyslexia tend to find our work becoming harder; therefore

many Dyslexic people may suffer from Anxiety when it comes to stress many with exams.

For most people the right information can be put in the wrong place when most Dyslexic people are trying to fill in forms.

Has anyone got any questions?

Children in Pre or Infants schools may struggle with learning the alphabet.

They may know how to read write and remember the letters.

Although some may not but they may not be able to remember

them in the right order of the alphabet. I think I had the same problem

as a child but back then it seemed as I was thought of as think, squib etc.

Kindergarten and first grade, they may struggle to read loud and in public.

They may struggle with reading, sound, pronouncing, and spell certain words.

I struggled for years

With that where the teachers used to get me try to say them in so many symbols,

which sometimes helped and other times did not.

They may not recognize central words.

This may not change much during second grade or high school,

where they may feel embarrassed reading in public.

This may cause them a lot of Anxiety and fear when a lot of people are looking at them.

Even though most people may understand they may have Dyslexia, they may still feel overwhelmed.

However,’ this may vary for most people depending on their self – esteem and many more things.

I hated talking part in school plays etc., I was shy as a child when it came to that,

when I was in school and yet many years later

I enjoyed doing lectures for the students at the University.

Therefore’ it is possible to overcome most things but not everyone necessary changes I guess.

Dyslexia may slow people down where they may need a lot of support school,

college and university work with studying, extra time for exams, assignments, essays and more.

Anyone can struggle with anything at any age though school, college or university, even all.

Even speaking, sounds, blending sounds, recognizing sounds or and words etc.

Most people may struggle to make notice say in a class, meeting etc.,

They may not pick up everything to whoever is holding the class, meeting etc.,

mainly when there is a big group of people talking and more.

If they are likely to miss out important things,

they need support from someone who can

pick what they really need to know, whatever it may be.

This may cause them a lot of Anxiety.
