Introduction to Advocacy.

If a person feels they have been controlled by families and even certain services, you may be able to ask your manager if you could referral your patient to Advocacy services who empowers people to be independent.  

About One Voice Advocacy project.

I used to an Advocate for 1 Voice Advocacy service.
One Voice is a service run by disabled people. They work in partnership with other organisations on all topics. They empower people to do things for themselves. 1 Voice has been going about 10 to 20 years.
1 Voice is funded by Wolverhampton City Council.

What is Advocacy?
Advocacy is when a person has their voice heard.
Advocate can help a person have their say in what they want in their life.  
          Advocacy is speaking up for others and yourself.
 Advocacy is when a person can tell an advocate when they are not happy with something or someone.
        An Advocate can't point the person out but they can help you to find a service that can.   
                                       
  •         What is Easy read?

        A lot of people with disabilities and health problems need their information in easy read and tools to try to make life easy for them. wheelchairs, shower rails, Sign language for the deaf, Braille for the blind, Sign along for people with Autism, Makaton, Talking Mats, Widgit, Symbol World, Clear For All, Easy Read, Clear written/audio information, No Jargon!  They should have special tools to make their lives as easy possible.
               
  Once offers Accessible information training.
    
 The world is hard to understand as it is.

1 Voice helps with.
Phone calls.
 Writing a letter.

Say what you want to say.

   Independent Advocacy is needed.

All Advocates are trained different.
Everyone’s skills are different.
The person's chose who you see as long as we are trained to help you.
What one Advocate doesn’t know another Advocate does.
I used to be an Advocate
1 Voice helps people with disabilities and health problems with your Healthcare.

An Advocate should respect a person’s choice.
An Advocate should make sure information accessible for the person.
The person can complain about the Advocate they are not happy with them.
The Advocate should listen to the person.
        An advocate makes sure a person’s choice is taken in account what they want.
        An advocate can support the person in meetings.

What can't One Voice help the person with?
(Not.)
 Can’t raise their own opinion
 Can't Judge what you say to us.
Can’t tell anyone the person’s business.  
The person’s view is more important.
After a short meeting to access the person's needs, an advocate may assign you or you could be signposted to another organization/service in relation to your situation.
This service is free for people who have physical and sensory disabilities and information is kept private.
